Devotional Guide for the week of September 11th, 2022
Today begins a new series of sermons this fall on the Israelites crossing the Jordan River into the land of promise and the transitions into new territory we face in our lives.
1. Remember a time in your life when you lost someone important to you. How did you feel at the time? How did you respond? What changes or shifts took place in your life? Notice that the Book of Joshua opens with the death of Moses and what that must have been like for the Israelites.
2. Read Joshua 1:1-9. What promises does God make to Joshua? Which one is repeated more than once?
3. Notice verse 8 and the word “meditate.” The Hebrew word for meditate is the word of the growl of a lion over their prey. Have you ever tried to separate a dog from chewing on a bone? What kind of growl did you get? That is the word for “meditate.”
