Devotional Guide for Week of June 19th, #2 the Helper or Caregiver
The Helper is caring and generous but may appear possessive and manipulative to others. Healthy Twos focus on the needs of others, but unhealthy Twos are at risk of becoming co-dependent as they search for love from those they help.
1. Interesting fact: Of all the nine styles on the Enneagram, which one by far (and it is not even close) weighs the heaviest? The Helper. Why? They are always cooking for others.
2. Not only are they cooking for others, but when the food is cooked, who sits down and gives themselves a cookie-reward for being so helpful? Indeed.
3. The “sin” of a Two is pride. It sounds counterintuitive. But The Helper/Caregiver is always meeting the needs of others, and often in denial about their own neediness. Twos are proud of not needing anything from others (or at least the illusion of not needing anything from others!), they are proud of being such self-sacrificing people. And when Twos help you, you better say “thank you”!
