Devotional Guide for Week of July 10th, #5 The Thinker
1. The Five on the enneagram is “The Thinker” with the need to know. Read the Parable of the Rich Fool in Luke 12:15-21. Notice the last verse: what does it mean to be “rich toward God”? What would someone do to show they are “rich toward God”? What would relationships look like for one who is “rich toward God”? The parable reveals Jesus’ attitude toward life, something along the lines of “If you are united to God you are alive; if you are separated from God you are dead.” You might say this is the “biblical notion of life” (Clarence Thompson).
2. Fives want to be rich, as in have an abundant life. What they settle for however, is often they will go with less in their lives—fewer possessions, fewer clothes, a simple vehicle and not a luxury brand—and settle for knowledge—what they can get in their heads. Fives are often accused of “living in an ivory tower.”
3. All Fives on the enneagram should have this sign on their desk (and all Fives have desks): “Sing like you don’t need the money.”
